Embracing Imperfection
While Super 8 can be cinematic, its always full of life, laughter, and everything else that makes Super 8 one of a kind. The out of focus, light leaks, and grain are all just little bonuses. It's hard to say we didn't go through the (ultra cinematic digital) perfectionist phase, but after picking up Super 8 in 2021, our view really started changing about what was important to document on the wedding day. Since then we've offered raw footage with any mediums we offer, even though Super 8 is perfect exactly how it's shot.
Shooting With Purpose
We like to think of shooting film as editing in real time. It's about capturing the right moment at the right time while respecting the slow, intentional, and hands on process of shooting film on vintage cameras. On a typical wedding day we bring one roll of outdoor film and one roll of indoor film for ~4 minutes of scanned footage. It can stand alone as a vintage highlight film, or mixed into one of our signature mixed media films.
The Sound of Super 8
The best part of Super 8 is you get to feel it, not hear it, unless you're a guest at your wedding. Then the whurring of film is probably as intoxicating to them as it is to us, especially the ones who recognize a Super 8 camera when they see one. But as far sound on Super 8 goes, you either need a techie like Bryant, or a time machine to go back to the mid 1970s. The added benefit is Super 8 pairs nicely with your vows, after the tone messages, or a song thats a little more you and your fiancé.
